It was a Fun Night in Eudora, with lots of personal bests in the throwing events and on the track. We faced strong competition, but our athletes rose to the occasion. Juliana led the way on the track, placing in two of her three events and PR-ing in the 400. The juniors appreciated their classmate, Zach, coming by late in the evening after wrapping up his baseball game to cheer them on. #track #athletics #soareagles

James Lee and the Eagles defeat Northland Christian 1-0 to advance to the Championship game. Senior James Lee threw 6 2/3 innings and 14 strikeouts with senior Shaphan Ming closing out the game by coaxing a ground ball to the right side for the final out. This game was a pitching duel to the end but the Eagles were able to score after two key hits by Lee and Asher Lawson in the 6th. With Cale Whitaker on third (running for Lee), Northland’s pitcher buries a breaking ball in the dirt. It gets away from the catcher and Whitaker sails in for the game’s only run which would be all Veritas would end up needing to secure the win. The Eagles will play in the championship game Saturday at 3pm. Come out to the “J” in Overland Park to cheer them on!

Veritas Defeats Heritage Christian 3-2 Thursday night, in Overland Park. Lincoln Baum goes 6 innings on the mound giving up just 1 earned run with James Lee getting the save in the 7th. Key RBI’s from Lee and Asher Lawson along with a passed ball swipe of home from Austin Alvarez were enough to move the Eagles to the 3pm Friday semi-final game of the Berkley Walline Memorial Tournament. If the Eagles win, they play in the championship game at 3pm on Saturday.

Baseball game updates from Thursday and Friday. On Thursday, the Eagles Varsity split a double header with Eudora on Thursday. Game one went south for Veritas with several miscues in the field and they lost 3-14. The Eagles refused to check out, as has been the case all season and won game two 4-3. Gavin Oberzan, starting pitcher for the first time this season, went 4.2 innings, threw a bevy of 12-6 curveballs, allowed just 1 earned run and struck out 3. Up 4-3 in the bottom of the 7th, James Lee came in and struck out the side with 12 pitches to secure the victory. Offensively, Bryce Miller hit a key 2 RBI double. Lee also recorded an RBI single. On Friday, Varsity defeated St. Mary’s 8-3 at final home game. JV Walks it off in game 2. Stella senior, James Lee had a complete game on the mound, striking out 13 with zero earned runs. The Eagles recorded 12 hits on the day with 7 RBI. Asher Lawson led the offensive front, going 3-4 with 3 RBI, then dashed off to take pictures for a formal he was attending Friday evening. Lee was 2-4 with 2 RBI, senior Shaphan Ming hit a 2 RBI triple and Lincoln Baum recorded an RBI single. We’d be remiss not to mention an incredible performance by the JV. Down 4-6 in the final inning, and the top of the order due up, Leadoff hitter Agape Morriss barrels a single to right-center field. Will Fitzgerald coaxes a walk, Colin Christline then gets plunked to load the bases. Cleanup hitter Jack Rogers, with two strikes on him smashes a line drive double to left field, driving in two to tie the game. Cale Whitaker with a quality at bat, earns a walk to once again load the bases. Graysen Jackson, with the opportunity every player wants, walks off the victory with an infield single, to secure the MVP along with Jack Rogers. Rogers was 2-2 with 3 RBI on the day, Christline and Graham Unruh also recorded hits and Amos Ney had an RBI. Pitching was solid with only 2 earned runs given up. #baseball #athletics #soareagles

High School Track had great time at the McLouth Invitational last night, with perfect weather and strong performances across the board. The Eagle women scored 19 points, with Juliana Yaluk-Shults leading the way with two second-place finishes—one in the 100-meter dash and the other in the 200-meter dash. On the men’s side, the team scored 13 points, with Korben Rodgers leading the way with 10 of those points, thanks to a second-place finish in the 100 and a fifth-place finish in the 200. It was a great night for this young team, and there’s plenty to build on the rest of the season. #track #athletics #soareagles
